Stephen Wilkes is a contemporary American photographer whose innovative technique allows him to capture the passage of time in a single photograph. In his Day to Night series, his images capture major cities, landscapes and wildlife from around the world. Photographing single moments, he sees over the course of 24 to 36 hours—he then blends the best single moments, using time as his guide into a seamless single photograph. The final image visualizes our conscience journey with time. The resulting panoramic images create a sense of wonder and awe.
“I like to describe myself as a collector of magical moments,” he has explained. “My work is a combination of art & science. I’m exploring the space time continuum within a 2 dimensional still photograph. Time is something we’ve never been able to put our minds around, yet in a unique way these images begin to put a face on time.”
